We’ve covered what to expect when you get your braces off, but what about when you get your braces on? Before your first visit to the orthodontist, you may feel nervous. You may have questions about what’s in store. Or you may simply be excited to start this new journey! What can you expect during your consultation?
You’ll Meet Our Team
Your consultation is the chance to meet our team! You’ll meet the orthodontist who’ll be working with you, as well as the assistants who will be taking x-rays, making adjustments, and performing repairs throughout your treatment. We want you to know you or your loved one is in good hands, so we’ll make sure to go over our experience and answer any questions you have!
This is also our chance to get to know you. We’ll be working closely together for a few years, so we enjoy taking the time to get to know you, your hobbies, and your interests.
We Get to Know Your Smile
Your first visit to the orthodontist is also our time to learn a little bit about your smile. We’ll perform a quick check of your teeth and potentially take some pictures, or even x-rays. X-rays help us get a better look at your teeth and enable us to plan a more effective treatment. They’re safe, painless, and included in the price of your braces.
We’ll talk more about your experiences. Do you have pain or discomfort when you smile or eat? What do you like about your smile? What don’t you like? This consultation is a chance for you to express any concerns and get your questions answered.
We’ll Discuss Treatment Options
Once we take a look at your smile, we may discuss some future needs you may have.
- Do you have an overbite or an underbite?
- Do any teeth need to be removed?
- Do you require a palatal expander?
- How long will your treatment last?
Depending on the answers to these questions, we would recommend one of two treatments: traditional braces or Invisalign aligners. Depending on the complexity of your case, one treatment may be better suited for your smile than another.
Braces can’t be removed, which makes them more successful, if a little less comfortable. Meanwhile, Invisalign is transparent and removable, making it more convenient but less compliant. We’ll help you decide which treatment is best for you.
Please note, you won’t get your braces placed on your first visit. This is your time to consider the options and learn about what’s available!
